TWO POEMS BY LUCAS RESTIVO

Big day!

Today I got promoted at work.
A stranger said I was busier than a one legged man
at an ass kicking contest.

This was a bonding tactic and way
to tell me her dad’s dead.
To bond with her dead dad.
Yay!

After, a German man said Fluffernutterbutter
but like Floofernüterbooter.
If I were president, I’d guarantee everyone
experiences this at least once in their life.

And for cosmic balance, his fucking girlfriend
picking an ice cream flavor.
Eternity has two sides.

There’s an unfortunate academic history
in the ingredient list,
so forgive me moaning when the getting's good

and the time for quitting
and the a song that makes me feel
like what I imagine it feels like
to be a thirteen year old girl
and for that feeling, too

WHEN REGULAR DAYS FEEL LIKE THIS

Eggs in shell, then pan, then bowl. Then me.
She FaceTimes randomly.
The day never gets old talking about it.

My best friend, a high school coach, asks if I'll dress as a scout
for a Santa's-always-watching effect.
Just checking in.

Later, a solo dinner with my parents, just the three of us,
which could mean oh god how many things.
Maybe I should get really worked up over the possibilities.

Maybe I'm surrounded by an unshakable circus
that demands my participation.
Maybe I’m still doing it.

Invited to a show down the street.
Still want to be the Mr. Beast of telling it like it is,
as pathetic as it is

I’ll love whoever lets me
